Energas

  • Generation: Combined-cycle natural gas

  • Start of operation: 2002

  • Installed capacity: 300 MW

  • Location: San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic

Energas (Compañía de Electricidad de San Pedro de Macorís) is located in San Pedro de Macorís, near Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. It is one of the four largest power plants on the island. It operates three 100 MW combined-cycle natural gas plants that supply electricity to the national grid.

In late 2018, Energas signed a 10-year extension of the PPA (until 2032) with the Corporación Dominicana de Empresas Eléctricas Estatales (“CDEEE”), as part of the project to convert the plant to natural gas.

ENERGAS is constructing a 130 MW unit that will be operational in 2025. Energas 4 will allow the country to reduce consumption of liquid fuels (LFO and HFO), at the same time reducing the marginal cost of the system and CO2 emissions.

ENERGAS is committed to the present and the future of the country and in contributing to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. That is why it has transformed its infrastructure, and improved its technology to provide modern, more economical, and sustainable energy services.

This conversion from diesel to natural gas will save the country $ 1 billion dollars in the span of 10 years and will help reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 460,000 metric tons annually and more than 1,050 tons of greenhouse gases.

We are private power pioneers: wherever we invest, we play an important role in the economic and social development of countries, markets and communities.
