Georgetown, Guyana – June 3, 2026 – InterEnergy Group presented today to H.E. Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, senior government officials, business leaders and members of the media its progress, vision, and long-term roadmap to support the transformation of Guyana’s electricity system into a more reliable, resilient and digitally managed network capable of sustaining the country’s rapid economic growth.
The event also marked the inauguration of InterEnergy’s new office in Georgetown, reinforcing the company’s long-term commitment to Guyana and its energy future.
Guyana is experiencing one of the fastest rates of economic growth in the world, creating unprecedented demand for reliable electricity to support new industries, expanding cities, digital infrastructure, investment and improved quality of life.
Under its agreement with Guyana Power & Light Inc. (GPL), InterEnergy is supporting the modernization of the country’s electricity sector through infrastructure supervision, project management, power plant optimization, asset life management and the development of a Smart Grid roadmap through 2030. The objective is to help create a modern electricity system capable of supporting Guyana’s long-term economic and social development.
To date, InterEnergy has been providing supervision for the development and construction of key electricity infrastructure projects, including more than 350 km of transmission lines, 240 km of distribution networks, 16 new or expanded substations, and the deployment of 20,000 smart meters. These investments are helping strengthen the reliability, resilience and modernization of Guyana’s electricity system.
The partnership also includes the development of a Smart Grid roadmap through 2030 to support the modernization of Guyana’s electricity system through advanced technologies, renewable energy integration and battery storage.
Beyond the current scope of work, InterEnergy highlighted how its broader regional platform could support Guyana’s long-term energy ambitions. The company brings proven experience from operating one of Latin America’s most advanced smart grids through CEPM in the Dominican Republic, complemented by capabilities in power generation, battery energy storage systems, digital utility platforms serving more than five million users, and electric mobility infrastructure through Evergo.
“The countries that prosper in the decades ahead will be those that build the infrastructure to match their ambitions. Guyana has that opportunity today,” said Rolando González Bunster, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of InterEnergy Group. “No country can build tomorrow on an electricity system designed for yesterday. Guyana has a unique opportunity to build a modern, resilient and intelligent energy system capable of supporting the next generation of growth. At InterEnergy, we are honored to support GPL and the Government of Guyana in that journey, bringing technical expertise, accelerating execution, strengthening local capabilities and helping create a stronger system for future generations.”
