InterEnergy Group named finalist for Reuters’ Responsible Business Awards 2022

August 2022

After having submitted our application, we are proud to announce that we have been shortlisted for the categories of the SDG Pioneer and Net Zero Transition accolades from Reuters’s Responsible Business Awards 2022.

As Reuters stated, “out of the more than 700 entries made this year, IEG initiatives demonstrated the greatest innovation, the most positive impact and far-reaching scalability that is helping challenge the status quo and deliver a better, more green and just future”.

In these two categories, InterEnergy had two equally groundbreaking and boundary-pushing initiatives take the spotlight. CEPM Zero for the Net Zero Transition accolade: a 10-year plan for the transition to completely clean energy with the installation of 600 megawatts (MW) of new 100% renewable plants, thus decarbonizing its energy production; and Evergo, for the SDG Pioneer Award: IEG’s solution to electrical mobility, teeming with constant leadership and easy-going transition to countries such as Panama, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic by providing a sustainable mobility model and solution to the charging of electric vehicles, marking them up as the biggest and most sophisticated provider of such service in the whole region. Evergo’s projection is quite ambitious, since it intends to expand with 4,000 new stations in countries such as Mexico, Paraguay, Uruguay, Aruba and Puerto Rico.

Ever since kickstarting the CEPM Zero initiative and Evergo, among many other projects of similar innovation, we have made it clear that our intentions are not only to heal and protect the world, but to innovate upon our pre-established framework across our vast portfolio. We believe that our current standing initiatives have been a pinnacle for the energy industry, and as such have been witnessed by the world.

Through our spearheaded vision of the future, we have been able to engage and connect not only with Latin America, but also with the rest of the world. This nomination reaffirms our position at the forefront of the world in terms of sustainability and innovation.

Starting all the way back in 2009, the Reuters Events’ Responsible Business Awards are the world’s leading Awards celebrating leadership in sustainable business. The awards focus not only with groundbreaking sustainability strategies, but rather with delivering an impact on society, business, and the environment—providing a fresh blueprint for businesses in the 21st century. Though commemoration is in order, the celebratory symphony must wait until October 13th which is when the awards ceremony shall take place in London.

This is the second time that IEG has been selected as a finalist in the Reuters Events Responsible Business Awards. The first time was for the Clean Energy Transition category in 2020.

“The world is demanding more clean energy every day and is moving towards zero emissions with major commitments from the private sector, as we have seen at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), where we also had the privilege of being present. It was precisely there that we signed an agreement with Bank of America to work together to develop clean energy solutions in the Caribbean and Latin America and help the countries of the region, with special attention to SIDS (Small Island Developing States), to make the transition to a more sustainable future and support their commitment to achieve the goal of zero net emissions of greenhouse gases”, said Rolando Gonzalez-Bunster, Chairman and CEO of IEG.
