InterEnergy Group and Guyana Power & Light Sign MOU for Sustainable Energy Development

This agreement leverages the expertise and innovation of InterEnergy from its wholly own subsidiary in the Dominican Republic, CEPM.

Santo Domingo, January 16th, 2024— In a significant move to bolster the energy sector in Guyana, InterEnergy Group (IEG) and Guyana Power & Light, Inc. (GPL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This collaborative effort reflects a shared commitment to explore opportunities that could reshape the energy landscape of Guyana.

IEG, a key player in power generation, transmission, distribution and electric mobility in Latin America and the Caribbean, and GPL, the largest supplier of electricity in Guyana, are pooling their expertise to fortify Guyana’s energy infrastructure. This strategic partnership aims to deliver reliable, affordable, and quality energy services to all corners of the country, thereby supporting Guyana’s sustainable development goals.

From this agreement, both companies intend to engage in discussions to explore opportunities and identify potential areas for collaboration and development of GPL through the implementation of IEG’s expertise and know-how in electricity generation, transmission and distribution (particularly its smart metering experience with its proprietary post and pre paid meter solutions), and in the management of electricity systems and assets.

GPL will benefit from the 30-year plus experience of CEPM specifically its use of the latest technology and its commitment towards converting the touristic region of the east into a zero-emission destination through its CEPM Zero initiative before 2030.
