InterEnergy Presents Pioneering Projects in Electric Mobility and Renewable Generation to the IDB
March 13, 2024
BÁVARO, La Altagracia. – InterEnergy Group, the holding company of CEPM and Evergo, proudly presented its pioneering projects in electric mobility and renewable energy generation to the Board of Directors of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). Local representatives and executives from the IDB, representing over 40 countries, gathered at the Evergo Connect electric charging station and CEPM’s FV3 solar park in Bávaro. This visit, part of the IDB Group’s Annual Meeting, highlighted the significant innovations of these projects in promoting clean energy and sustainability in the Dominican Republic.
The delegation was led by various executives from CEPM and Evergo, including Roberto Herrera, Country Manager of InterEnergy Group and Executive Director of CEPM; Oscar San Martín, General Manager; Antonio Martorell, Commercial Director; Wellington Reyes, Director of Innovation; Carlos Rodríguez, Senior Manager of Marketing and Corporate Affairs; Claudia Castillo, Commercial Manager; Concepción Sambartolomé, Business Developer; and Natanael Rolffot, Superintendent of Renewables.
As part of the partnership between the Punta Cana Macao Energy Consortium (CEPM) and Evergo, both companies of InterEnergy Group, Evergo Connect aims to provide the growing number of electric vehicle users in the Dominican Republic with a unique space featuring 29 charging stations powered by 100% renewable energy.
This hub integrates ultra-fast chargers capable of handling a maximum power of up to 225 kW, equivalent to charging a vehicle in just 15-20 minutes. Additionally, it offers users work areas, rest zones, restaurants, a children’s area, an electric vehicle showroom, and rental services, among other amenities.
“This is the first project of its kind in Latin America, and we aspire to replicate the model in other parts of the country and Latin America, where Evergo already has a presence through the region’s most extensive and sophisticated network of electric vehicle charging stations,” said Roberto Herrera, Country Manager of InterEnergy Group, during the visit.
Another key innovation at this facility is the country’s first Battery Swapping station, allowing customers with compatible vehicles to quickly replace their depleted battery with a fully charged one. It also includes a “micromobility” space for charging electric scooters and bicycles.
Pioneers in Solar Technology
As part of the visit, the executives toured the FV3 Bávaro solar park, notable for its battery energy storage system (BEES) with a capacity exceeding 40MWh, the largest in Central America and the Caribbean. This effort is estimated to prevent over 18,096 tons of CO2 emissions from entering the atmosphere this year alone.
One of the main features of this energy storage system is its ability to provide photovoltaic firmness during the day and energy arbitrage during peak demand periods to CEPM’s grid, ensuring consistent service stability.
This project marks a step forward in CEPM’s goal of achieving zero emissions by 2030, as part of the CEPM Zero initiative. “This mission stems from the will to guarantee increasingly clean, safe, and reliable energy service within the concession area and collectively work towards more sustainable and green development,” affirmed Roberto Herrera.
These projects, along with the electrification of Isla Saona with solar energy, are part of a program funded by IDB Invest, the private investment arm of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and Bank of America, aiming to foster the energy transition in the region. The investment in these projects reached $40 million, with $32 million coming from multilateral banking.
