Mónica Lupiañez

Managing Director, Head of Renewables, Country Manager, Panama

Mónica Lupiáñez is Managing Director, Head of Renewables and Country Manager at InterEnergy for Panama, with extensive experience in the international energy market. During her 19-year career in the energy sector and 14 years in renewables, she has created, directed, and operated multiple companies in Europe and Latin America.

Lupiáñez is an industrial engineer specialized in thermal and electrical from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), she has a certification from the Management Development Program of the University of Navarra and a certification in Hydrogen Economy from the University of Santiago de Chile. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in sustainability from MIT.

Among her main achievements within the Group is the implementation of the SER initiative, the first project in Panama that guarantees the use of 100% renewable energy for large companies.

Additionally, she was in charge of asset refinancing in Panama with the issuance of the first Project Finance 144/RegS green bond in Latin America for US$262.7 million. She also led the launch of Evergo, InterEnergy’s electric mobility initiative, for the development of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in the Panamanian market.

He currently leads the decarbonization process of the group and has designed the strategy of CEPM Zero together with Roberto Herrera to lead the company in the next decade to carbon-neutrality, as President Rolando González Bunster committed in November 2021 at COP26, and as he ratified with his commitments to his current partners.

She is responsible for the direction and supervision of the development and acquisition of new renewable assets of the Group in the region, as well as the engineering area in its different phases of development, construction and operation. She also directs the areas of Energy Marketing, and the management of the operation and maintenance of InterEnergy Group renewable projects.

She is currently president of the Panamanian Association of Electric Generators (ANPAG).
