On April 24, 2014, InterEnergy invested, through its subsidiary UEP Penonome II S.A., in the development and construction of the Laudato Si wind park in Penonome, Panama.

The project, with 215 MW in total installed capacity, is the largest of its kind in the Central American and Caribbean region. It features 86 Goldwind G109 2.5 MW wind turbine generators with a hub height of 90 meters. This turbine is a three-bladed, permanent magnet direct-drive, upwind, horizontal-axis, pitch-regulated, variable-speed machine.

The Laudato Si wind farm brings reliable and clean energy to the region, eliminating over 400,000 tons of CO2 emissions and saving 900,000 barrels of oil per year. The first tower was energized on the 28th of January, 2015, and on February 1st, 2015, the first kWh was sold through UEPII’s contract in to the Panamanian grid.
